2.4km run
Thursday, April 20
today we had the 2.4km run for pft. i didn't expect it, i thought it would be next week, or at least after we had our 5 stations.
since lang arts b was a free period again, the whole class went to the mph right on time. as expected, we were the first class there. we had to wait more than 15min for the last class to gather. then when 1.15 was told they were doing the run, a number of them wanted to go back to their class and get special shoes, and we had to wait for them just to run back to class, get their shoes and come back. really wasted our time.
so anyway, lots of people were crammed at the first lane, hoping to get an advantage by running less. the difference was little, but could change everything. the pe teacher let those on the outer lanes arch out of the lanes so that it would be slightly fairer. i stood at the front of lane 5, where i would not be hindered by those behind. to me, the difference of being behind to being in front is greater than that of between the first and last lane.
when we first started, all those on the outside immediately closed in on the inner lanes, cutting them off. so we ended up having the advantage. after running the 400m around the track, i caught up with ryan, who had been in front of me for quite a considerable distance. however, at the end of the 1km lap, he started to tire out and slowed down into a walk, so i couldnt stay with him any longer. i told him not to walk and mantained my own pace. the last i saw him, he was jogging.
after overtaking some more people, there was a huge gap between the person in front and me. i had no one to pace now, only my own will-power could make me mantain the pace. as i ran the straight portion, i closed my eyes and asked God to help me complete the run and get at least a 'c' grade, which was needed to get a gold, and God gave me the strength to continue.
the bad thing about running on the road around the school is that there are lots of turns before the finish. therefore, it was hard to gage when i should start sprinting. usually on the track, i would start once i went to the straight, which would be about 95m. on the large round, i started sprinting too late and ended up sprinting about 15 to 20m from the finish line. but that cant be helped i guess. still, with God's help, i got 12th out of a quarter of the sec1 batch :) and though SOME people may not think it's good, it's an achievement i'm proud of.
just last month, when i was still on mc, lots of people were saying, "clement won't do well for his 2.4 cos he hasnt been going for pe, so he wont be fit for the run." and like they said, when i first continued pe, i constantly tired easily. with prayer and faith, my stamina improved again, and i am able to perform as i would like to. it seems that most of the people that underestimated me were the ones that failed. clearly, God is Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals. praise the Lord!
AMEN;
